Many people have approached me with the inquiry: what's the best director position out there? Well, it's hard to say–it's mostly based on your own personal preference, but I'd have to lean towards human resources. HR jobs have quite a few advantages. If you like working with people, jobs in HR give you plenty of time to work with all your colleagues. If you're not sure about taking on an HR job, just start with assistant hr jobs so you can get a better feel for what kind of work you'll be doing. You might be more interested in HR manager jobs, while others are more into director jobs.

Your job basically entails working out and resolving issues in the workplace. You need to make sure there are no sexual harassment issues going around, for starters. If there’s a quarrel between two co-workers, you need to get in the middle of it and mediate. You need to come up with a resolution for them so they can get back to work. Human resources deal with keeping the peace in the office.

Most HR jobs require at least a bachelor’s degree. So you should look into getting into a good college and finishing with a degree in something similar to the field. There are many different majors that can be applicable, so choose based off of your preference and expertise. It’s also a plus to get an internship under your belt. If you have a little hands-on experience before you apply for the actual job, you’ll have a much better chance at landing that job. You can usually acquire an internship during your junior and senior years of college, so be sure to look into those before its too late. You can also begin with an assistant position and get a great feel for the company before you work for them. This will introduce yourself to the company and to the people you’ll be working for. If they get to know you better, you’re more likely to land a fulltime position when it opens.

The salary can range depending on how large the company you work for is. But it generally ranges from $55K-$75K a year. If you come from a great university and have an impressive internship under your belt, you can expect to see a higher salary to begin with. It’s helpful to know some people in the company you’ll be working for so they can put in a good word for you with the boss.

The human resources department is a great way to go when you’re looking into director positions. You will be working with great people who know how to resolve issues, so you most likely won’t be dealing with any yourself. They’ll all take care of it for you. You just have to make sure they stay on task! So you still have to be a great people person and know how to work with others, but you won’t be putting out fires like they will.
