Jobs for HR are centered around customer and employee satisfaction and when you want to be sure that people are looking happy doing their jobs, this is the field for you. Now all you need to do is to get your foot in the door and the more you know about the art of the cold call, the better off you are going to be. A cold call is something that can be quite tiring to do, and chances are good that you can cold call and still not receive a response. However, remember that when you want to put your best foot forward, you are going to need to think about how you are going to be able to accomplish it!
Remember that cold calling is not something that you can miss out on when you do a job search. A good cold call, one that goes well and where you can cement yourself in the mind of the people who are working on moving you forward, is something that any job hunter is going to dream of. However, before you get there, you need to get over the fear that is a big part of the cold call. You worry that you are irritating people, or you might worry that you are going to make a fool of yourself. The truth of the matter is that many people are afraid of a cold call because it represents a lack of control. What can you do to take control of your cold call?
In the first place, write out a script. It feels a little silly, but having a script can give you the option to leave a polished message and to come across very effectively. You should rehearse it a little bit, but when you have all the information in front of you, you are going to be in much better shape. Remember that you should not go for longer than a minute and in some cases, you will need a ten to twenty second version. This is called an elevator pitch, and you will find that it can be a good way to get all the information across.
Also, work on being able to throw out a good first impression. Are you someone who sounds enthusiastic and energetic on the phone? Even if your job hunt has been going on for some time and even if you are feeling discouraged, you will find that you can simply fake it until you make it. Remember that you should try a little rehearsal. How happy do you sound? Try taping yourself and you might be a little surprised at what you sound like!
If you are in a place where you like the idea of landing a great job, get used to the idea of cold calling. It is tough and it is more than a little nerve-wracking, but it can be an important part of getting the results that you need.
