invites applications for a

Director of the Office of Organizational Learning and Development

to join their team. Reporting to the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, this position is responsible for the oversight, direction, and development of the University of Montana’s Office of Organizational Learning and Development (OOLD), designed to support professional development and learning for over 2500 employees at the University of Montana. The Director will help support the University’s strategic goals including its emphasis on equity and inclusion, safety, employee engagement, and a student-centered culture through programming and training. The Director will alsol work in close collaboration with other directors and the University President’s Office and Provost’s Office to ensure that the University is supporting its commitment to employee growth, diversity and inclusion. The Director provides effective leadership and manages staff and budgets for the office. The Director will oversee ongoing assessment of the professional development needs of employees, will identify tools and experts to address those needs, and will ensure effective delivery of development and training opportunities.

The Director has the autonomy, authority and expectation to independently create/design, promote, implement and manage a variety of professional development and training programs for all university employees. Programs will include, but are not limited to: compliance training; supervisory training; initiatives to support a diverse and inclusive work environment, developmental and special interest sessions; teaching institutes; and programs to support career growth. The Director will collaborate with units across campus and in the region to identify possible training resources and advise other units on the best mechanism for offering effective professional development and communicating opportunities to employees.

This position will interact with both internal and external entities. Other responsibilities include:

Create, develop, implement, oversee, administer, and assess program activities

Serve as an effective advocate for employee professional development and training

Actively engage in University initiatives aimed at supporting employee learning

Provide supervision and visionary leadership to the Office of Organizational Learning and Development

Continue the work of former Faculty Development Office, producing programming, creating learning communities, and leading strategic initiatives in support of faculty development and career growth

Lead the cross-sector University team charged with reviewing employee training needs

Develop and regularly update, in partnership with key campus stakeholders, an annual training calendar as well as a recommended schedule for employee development and training over the course of employment

Oversee, in partnership with key campus stakeholders, campus-wide employee professional development events

Ensure that all OOLD resources are utilized in a judicious manner; including consistent review of expenses and the development and maintenance of a budget

Serve as an active member of University leadership teams and committees

Participate in the national discourse around effective professional development practices

Manage grants received by OOLD for faculty professional development

Serve as a campus resource on employee development and diplomatically build collaborations with units and employee groups across campus

Position Details

Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, MUS Contract and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.

Salary for this position is $ 65,000 - $75,000 per year commensurate with qualifications.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a related field, as well as at least five (5) years of experience in a higher education setting focused upon either academic enrichment, student success, or another related area; or any combination of education and experience that would provide the competencies necessary to successfully discharge the duties assigned to the position

Prior experience creating, administering, managing and teaching training and developmental programs and courses

Advanced public relations skills and experience in effective and persuasive communication

Experience in developing and providing in-person training programs to effectively meet stated or expected outcomes

Knowledge of and ability to apply andragogic techniques and theories

Ability to work independently and make appropriate decisions

Ability to determine assessment methods and create assessment tools for trainings offered with the ability to analyze data, provide appropriate reports and use data to make program/course changes

Ability to problem solve, exercise sound judgment and maintain a professional, personable demeanor

Expert written and oral communication skills; business English, grammar and composition

Organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills and ability to meet deadlines while providing attention to detail

Advanced interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and create and maintain effective relationships with the campus community and internal and external agencies and people

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality

Program development and leadership experience including budget oversight skills

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree, Ph. D. or other terminal degree, and progressive leadership experience in higher education setting

Grant writing and management skills
