GENERAL SUMMARY
The Sr. Payroll Administrator is responsible for processing full cycle exempt and non-exempt payrolls in a high-volume, multi-state environment. This team-oriented role works closely with peers and HR partners to audit, prepare, and process both regular and supplemental payrolls to ensure associates are paid in an accurate and timely manner. Successful candidates will have subject matter expertise in payroll compliance and general principles of payroll accounting knowledge.
REPORTS TO: Payroll Manager
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Process full cycle bi-weekly payroll in partnership with other Payroll team members and the Lead Payroll Specialist. Team provides support of 500+ store, office and distribution center locations in a multi-company and multi-state entity environment for exempt and non-exempt employees *Prepares, reviews and processes payroll data, including but not limited to, one-time payments, retroactive payments, rate changes, terminations, new hires, LOA, garnishments, tax changes, direct deposits, pay cards and one-time deductions *Perform audit reviews of payroll data and coordinate with HR and stores on various changes needed for final calculation of payroll *Work with associates to resolve issues resulting from inaccurate direct deposit data *Load, balance, and audit timekeeping data weekly *Assist with cross training of payroll staff *Identify and assist in implementation of appropriate ongoing business process efficiencies to improve payroll operations *Create and generate reports and audit processes to assist the team with payroll process audit optimization *Receive and respond to pay related inquiries using discretion & effective oral and written communication with associates and outside agencies *Act as a liaison between DBI and outside agencies affecting payroll, such as third-party vendors, internal business partners, law offices, etc. *Manage completion of unemployment claim responses and assist with unemployment hearings within the claims management system *Assist with employment and wage verification requests *Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Payroll Manager
REQUIRED SKILLS:
*Strong working knowledge of payroll laws and processes, and the ability to research and interpret payroll regulations and guidance, preferably in the areas of multi-state payroll processing, tax withholding, voluntary deductions, garnishments, and tax mobility *Basic payroll accounting knowledge required *Proven ability to create complex reports in HR and timekeeping systems and translate those outputs in Excel to support the audit of payroll processes. *Critical thinking and problem-solving skills *Accounting and math skills are key to success in this role *Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job *Strong interpersonal (verbal and written) communicational skills to collaborate with internal team and provide exceptional customer service. *Excellent organizational skills and time management skills with a high level of attention to detail *Must have a strong background of MS Excel, Word, and Outlook. *Must be a self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving skills *Must be able to work with little instruction on daily work and general instruction on new assignments *Ability to work in a team, as well as independently, in a time sensitive environment. *Experience processing payroll for 5,000+ employees preferred *Previous experience working for a publicly traded company preferred
EXPERIENCE:
*Must have 5+ years of recent and relevant experience. Preferred experience working in high-volume multi company payroll *Strong working knowledge of ADP Enterprise Payroll and Time Tracking preferred (or equivalent)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
*ADP Enterprise or equivalent payroll processing software experience
EDUCATION:
*High School diploma or equivalent *CPP, FPC or CCP designation preferred
