Job Description:

As part of the Reward COE, the Reward and JE Manager assists in developing and delivering a global reward strategy that maintains the company position as an employer of choice and supports the Company’s future growth and development plans. You will also ensure that reward and recognition policies and practices within the company re-enforces our corporate values (including our License to Operate), delivers employee engagement and protects shareholder value through appropriate controls.

What is the role

Shell is hiring a Reward & Job Evaluation (JE) Manager role as part of the Reward COE organization. Your main responsibilities are as follows:

People

Ensures the Reward team are cared for, developed personally, professionally and technically.

Partners with others on the team—sharing experiences and insights.

Manages project teams to provide a pragmatic, customer focused, creative and commercially grounded solution.

Is a supportive and respected leader who coaches and develops the community of practice.

Develops capability building materials and events for all stakeholders involved in the Reward and JE process and coaches the community as appropriate (e.g. on the connectivity between reward and job evaluation and overall people activities such as training, careers and performance management).

Strategy and Continuous Improvement

Contributes to the design and development of Shell’s reward strategy, ensuring that policy and practice is aligned to the business and people strategies.

Works with the JE Team Lead on the development of the overall job evaluation strategy and approach.

Leads projects that support the Reward & JE journey and/or is a member of project teams/ DRBs as a subject matter representative.

Through internal and external networking looks to continually improve reward policies and practices, building on best practice and maintaining Reward as a centre of expertise.

Acts as a champion of Shell’s brand values and people principles, ensuring they are reflected in everything we do.

Policy, Process, Tools and Methodologies

Shares end to end accountability for reward policies, processes, systems enablement through to operational deployment.

Manages and oversees the implementation and ongoing maintenance of the overall reward and organisation design processes, encompassing job evaluation and sizing, grading structures and job families, and links to reward benchmarking, merit budget setting, bonus and share schemes etc.

Leads on the implementation of new reward programmes or adaptation of current reward packages (e.g. introduction of new salary structures / MCAs & similar CPPs) and initiatives providing advice and direction to senior management and the HR team.

Supports the Job Catalogue frameworks, including the management of new and decommissioning of old roles.

Monitors and reinforces (and intervenes, if required) good corporate governance in reward, job group & job catalogue management across Shell. Provides assurance on the standards of application and challenge current processes, tools and methodology with a continuous improvement mindset to further automation of the Job Catalogue driven Compensation processes.

Develops communications to support the roll-out of programmes that reinforce overall reward and JE philosophy and key messages.

Manages conflicting perspectives related to reward and JE challenges, bring parties to consensus and a robust conclusion by balancing global standards, local budget and market pressures and ER/IR aspects.

Manages Reward and Job Evaluation governance, ensuring compliance and representing the Reward dept at senior level meetings and supporting the VP, Reward in the preparation of papers and information oversight committees and DRBs.

Manages the Reward team to provide a pragmatic, customer focused, creative and commercially grounded reward solutions.

What we need from you

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.

Minimum fifteen (15) years of relevant experience.

Bachelor's Degree required. Degree related to Business preferred.

Role based in United States with Global Pay Policy oversight and management

Comprehensive Oil & Gas industry experience with the ability to network across multiple industries

A consulting background is desirable

Ability to travel (subject to current travel policy)

Ability to work extended hours as needed, experience in working across multiple countries with an understanding of complex, matrix organizations will be essential

Experience in Pay Equity planning and analysis

Understanding of HR systems (such as HRIS, SAP and WorkDay)

Sound knowledge of the Regulatory and Legislative requirements

Contributes in the HR due diligence of mergers and acquisitions

Capability to work in a remote team environment

The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate most of these following attributes:

Technical:

Professional background as a Reward Specialist including elements of Job Evaluation with a previous track record of delivering reward strategies in a complex environment incorporating a broad range of reward issues.

Understanding of business drivers & metrics and implications for reward and recognition.

Broad and holistic understanding of organisational reward procedures, policies and systems and strong awareness of external pay market trends.

In depth experience of reward packages and plans and how they combine to attract, engage and retain employees.

Experience in job levelling and organisational design skills with a good understanding of the Hay Group methodology.

Data driven decision-making in the Reward & JE area requires strong numerical skills and the proven ability to analyse data and evaluate information from multiple sources, applying intuition and judgement to weigh their value and relevance to the decision at hand.

Professional:

Experience of the following is required: influencing senior management (e.g. subsidiary board level) and developing key internal and external relationships

Demonstrates a high level of industry knowledge and business acumen with the capability to develop an understanding of evolving business strategy.

A track record of delivery worldwide and across multiple businesses.

Project management - Has demonstrated ability to run group-wide project/processes with minimal supervision.

Workload planning and resourcing planning abilities

Stakeholder management; Proven ability to manage client relationships and business partnering, working across diverse cultures and geographies.

Change management experience

Communications - Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills and the ability to make the complex easy to understand through understanding the needs and approaches at individual and group level. Ability to write Board level / equivalent papers.

Managing external suppliers and budgets.

Leadership:

A learner mindset with strong personal presence, resilience and confidence is essential as well as the capability to apply theory and practice pragmatically in a challenging environment.

Although this role does not have direct reports, the ability to lead indirect reports and project teams is essential.

Maintains a broad view of the situation, identifying the key elements while keeping an overview of the detail.

Need to be assertive and able to hold their ground under pressure and with senior stakeholders.

Ability to work with high ambiguity in a high-pressure environment and challenge senior leaders.

The nature of the work does require influencing, facilitating, interviewing, and intervention skills.

Establishing a close, trust-based relationship, with HR colleagues.
