The role sits as part of the Global People Insights team in the OD&L Centre of Expertise (CoE). The CoE will bring together experts from all our areas of specialism – Global People Insights, Knowledge Management, Learning, OD, Leadership and Senior Executive Development, Continuous Improvement, and Causal learning. The CoE will deliver the Shell OD&L strategy, thought leadership, set standards, define methodology, drive innovation, and lead communities of practice.
In the CoE Global People Insights team, Assessment and Org Behaviour is the global centre of excellence for Shell’s survey, assessment, and business psychology needs. The team provides strategic inputs into senior management and HR to support evidence-based decision-making on human capital. We are the design and process owner for Shell People Survey, other strategic behavioral surveys, CEP assessment, leadership, and recruitment assessments.
The role reports to the Manager of Global People Insights. The role has 5 direct reports and is responsible for coaching, development, and performance management of the same. It also includes interfacing with a number of stakeholders including HR leadership teams, HR talent and learning VPs, contracts, and procurement, data privacy, and staff councils. The main stakeholders for this role sit within talent, recruitment, OD, and leadership and this may broaden in time. The role works closely with the Manager of People Analytics.
What's the role?
This role is primarily responsible for leading and inspiring a team to shape Shell’s strategy to all assessments and surveys, to ensure most value is generated via the deployment of assessments and surveys, and to ensure seamless cooperation with the People Analytics team on vendor/tool/survey selection, ROI documentation, and insights generation. This includes the assessment methodology for employee engagement, recruitment, and targeted groups, potential assessment, leadership, as well as business psychology and OD needs (e.g cultural measurement). You will bring their deep expertise in designing, selecting, implementing, and validating assessment and survey methodologies across a wide range of needs. You will lead and oversee validation, survey design, qualitative research, and psychometric measurement choices and support niche communities with assessments for assurance and accreditation.
You will be externally connected to relevant trends and innovations, and drive for continuous improvement and provide a top-quartile range of assessment interventions and tools to support business needs, continuously improve assessment and survey processes and tools to ensure business impact and value, and contribute to and ensure alignment with the global people agenda.
What we need from you
Masters or Ph.D. in Industrial/Organisational Psychology or equivalent.
Experience as an assessment practitioner in a range of assessment methods within a large global organization or as a consultant to large organisations
A track record of successfully managing complex projects with senior stakeholders within the area
Proven businesspartnering/consulting experience; able to manage stakeholders in a global mixed matrix organisation; experience of managing competing needs of rigorous assessment, best practices around design standards, and business drivers for efficiency and speed
Stays up to date on developments in assessment, have access to a broad global external network of assessment practitioners and organisations, and recognised externally as an expert assessment professional
Proven experience as a team leader will be an advantage. You be able to inspire and lead a global virtual team
Strong knowledge of policies and legal requirements around assessment, data management and professional standards. Knowledge on US specific regulations on validation and compliance is preferable.
Recognised affiliation or accreditation with external regulatory bodies (e.g. SIOP, BPS).
Experience of working with sensitive and confidential data; understands and can work with HR data privacy and local staff councils to ensure assessments and any surveys meet local requirements
Negotiates with contracts and procurement/external providers to ensure contracts are commercially viable for Shell and ensure payment to external partners; manages existing contracts to ensure ongoing value for Shell.
Strong project management capabilities and ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience of conducting market scans and literature reviews on the latest research on assessment and translate them into RDS context; write papers and develop slide decks for senior stakeholders on assessment data and analytics-based on the data; promotes the use of validated assessments and evidence-based thinking across HR.
