Talent Acquisition Specialist
to assist campus hiring departments with challenging positions to fill. As a new position to
Human Resource Services
(HRS)
and UM, you will have the opportunity to develop the position alongside the Director of Recruitment and Compensation and work closely with the campus team on the Priority for Action objective
of “Recruit excellent and diverse talent to UM.” The recruitment team plays a significant role in advancing and supporting UM’s initiatives on diversity, equity, and inclusion, and we welcome applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
As the Talent Acquisition Specialist, you will be joining our HRS recruitment team and the larger HRS team. Our team is made up of light-hearted, lively, hardworking, and dedicated human resource professionals who passionately pursue a high quality of work and provide exceptional customer service to the campus community and broader community. We believe in creating a pleasurable and collaborative work environment. The recruitment team oversees all hiring and recruiting of faculty, staff, administrators, and contract professionals for **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. (UM).
The Talent Acquisition Specialist will conduct outreach with potential applicants such as attending job fairs, tabling at events, connecting with campus colleagues to attract students to non-student positions, cold-calling/emailing, conduct follow-up with potential and actual candidates, and assist search committees in conducting timely recruitments to maximize maintaining candidates' interest and availability. You will illustrate a high level of initiative and independence; exercise sound judgment and accountability daily to make multiple decisions that significantly impact the campus community; maintain strict confidentiality; always represent **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. with integrity and professionalism; and demonstrate efficient time management, problem-solving, and organizational skills to effectively manage multiple projects and tasks at the same time.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Marketing UM as a desirable employer
Creating and applying marketing strategies with the goal to produce an abundant, talented, and diverse applicant pool
Writing job announcements that are attractive to candidates and working with hiring managers to craft announcements to highlight inclusivity and attract a diverse candidate pool
Maintaining UM Jobs’ social media accounts
Considering issues that may arise when generating applicant pools for specialized positions
Sourcing potential candidates such as attending job fairs, tabling at events, connecting with campus colleagues to attract students to non-student positions, cold-calling/emailing
Providing oversight and guidance to hiring managers and search committees including ensuring the fair and equitable treatment of all applicants; utilizes applicant tracking software to source positions, conducting recruitment processes
Assisting the Director with employer branding initiatives
Organizing and attending job fairs and recruitment events
Assisting the Director in forecasting hiring needs
Fostering long-term relationships with past applicants and potential candidates
Participating in strategic planning to review current practices and make suggestions to improve existing practices and develop new practices to provide better service for both internal and external customers
Conducting research; compile, analyze, and review historical and statistical data
Reviewing materials for completeness and compliance with established policies and procedures
Interpreting, communicating, and applying Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity Employment guidelines and regulations, University policies and procedures, and collective bargaining agreement language to the recruitment and selection processes
Meeting with various sized groups of the UM community to present process information in a clear and concise manner provides appropriate training; prepare presentation materials in a variety of formats suitable for the intended audience
Developing and distributing training/informational tools
Assisting potential applicants in navigating the recruitment process
Providing timely communication to job applicants and potential applicants
In this position you will be provided training to develop a working knowledge of University policies and procedures and federal and state regulations regarding recruitment and hiring; develop a working knowledge and experience with Banner database software; and develop an advanced working knowledge of our applicant tracking system and other systems used in the recruitment process (SilkRoad, U-Approve, and Accurate Background). As the incumbent, you will be expected to develop the ability to learn and apply **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. policies and procedures and collective bargaining agreements (CBA); knowledge of and ability to apply marketing strategies; and ability to research, analyze data and provide appropriate reports.

Demonstrated professional communication skills both written and verbal; ability to explain guidelines and hiring practices to a diverse range of people; demonstrated professional business English, spelling, composition, and grammar ability; and ability to draft, proofread, and layout various documents for the intended audience
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
Possess a steadfast commitment to diversity, maintaining an inclusive institutional environment, and a demonstrated ability to work closely and constructively with a wide variety of constituents
Ability and interest in being active with current job boards, social networks, and platforms to find talent and plan, create and release job advertisements
Knowledge of and experience in hiring practices and procedures
Utilize organizational and time management skills to complete tasks accurately and within established deadlines
Ability to problem-solve, exercise sound judgment
Demonstrated attention to detail used to write job postings, provide job offer information, and complete other duties where attention to detail is crucial
Project management skills, which includes taking a project from inception to completion
Ability to create, proof, and submit advertising (supplemental ads as requested by hiring departments)
Ability to create shortened announcements for distribution (job board, veterans organization, listserv)
Ability to learn and apply Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity guidelines, principles and practices
Ability to operate a personal computer and related word processing, spreadsheet, and database software to include Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook and Banner Database software
Minimum Required Experience
High school diploma (or equivalency) in addition to two (2) years of progressively responsible experience; or any combination of experience and education
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in human resources field or hiring employees
Experience in recruitment of employees or students
