Payroll Accounting - Operations Manager
(Transition Role up to June 2022 - 6 months)
We’re looking for an experienced finance manager who will establish systematic direction, apply risk based actions, and manage a team of finance professionals to complete the clearing of General Accounts Aged Balances in Payroll Accounting (PA). Though this is a Transition Role, this is a great opportunity to be exposed to an organization that has a global reach. This is also an opportunity to further cultivate your leadership and operations management skills. You will also be involved in the Process as part of the Extended Leadership Team, working closely with the Senior Leadership Team in Employee Expenditure - Travel & Expense and Payroll Accounting.
This role will also work closely with our HR Payroll business partners, HR Operations, Legal Entity or Country Controllers and other teams in Finance.

Financial Dimensions
Finance Operations Payroll Accounting Team under Finance Expenditure Process is a Global Finance Process consisting of 75 finance professionals based out of Manila providing payroll accounting process support to around 69,000 Shell employees across 46 countries. The team manages this through integration with/in HR across 13 financial systems maintaining general ledgers with value of approximately $350B.
Business Dimensions
You will be responsible for leading a team of 7 Project Analysts dedicated to zero out the aged balances of the Expat Pension Fund (EPF) GL Accounts with >$1B ABS Total Balance for 10 Countries by Q1 2022. As Operations Manager, you are accountable for operationalizing the clean-up initiative and providing management updates. You will be working with a Project Manager, liaise concerns and/or solutions with HR partners and local finance leaders to resolve and deliver close out of identified reconciling items. The role is also expected to interact heavily with senior leaders in Finance and HR.
Key Roles and Responsibilities as follows
Accountable for operationalising the plan to align with current strategy to clear all of GL Aged Balances
Provide coaching and developmental opportunities, and manage performance of project analysts
Coordinate with PA Global Funding Team (GFT) Senior Team Manager (STM) and create a holistic view of EPF Operational Performance
Support GFT STM to identify and integrate process gaps via the Global Expat Pension Project or other Stakeholder Engagements into sustainable solutions
Collaborate with stakeholders on cross-functional issues, providing insights on impact and managing risk
Leads and influences the Project Team and GFT to have the right mindset for change
Directly support PM in key decision-making, removes obstacles, and enforces accountability
Provide inputs to the Global PA Operations Manager on the overall PA Strategy (in relation to GL Account Reconciliation)
Key Challenges
Substantiating variances for aged balances where supporting information will be sourced from other teams.
Multiple stakeholder engagements to discuss and resolve cross-process issues
Country HR Policy and Procedures may vary for different countries and may have different financial requirements for processing and reporting in ERP Systems
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
You will thrive in this role if you take management seriously - taking accountability and responsibility for delivering agreed outcomes. You must have good grasp of operational and performance management tools which you can deploy with ease in your daily operations. As a Senior Leader, you will also be part of the Employee Expenditure Leadership Team and will join staple Leadership Meetings.
Your success is highly reliant on your ability to effectively manage and influence internal and external stakeholders (particularly decision makers) steering them towards agreed outcomes. Strong leadership skills will foster motivation and inspire ideas in your team, influencing collaboration and leading to delivery and achieving objectives through others. You must also be passionate about sustainable delivery, solutions-finding, and business partnership. You must exhibit a high level of curiosity to look beyond finance processes into the end-to-end HR Pay People Process to come up with better solutions to aged balances.
Experience in leading successful finance business projects which involve inter-department and inter-company collaboration
Effective communication skills adaptable to different stakeholders spread across different seniorities
Appreciation of risk management tools to ensure commercial opportunities are effectively explored with a risk-reward business lens
Able to understand regulatory rules, legal and fiscal policies, and local policies and translate these to an impact assessment to operations and design operational plans in response to these changes
