The Senior Payroll Analyst reports to the Payroll Manager and serves as the pirmary back-up to the Payroll Manager. This position has thorough understanding of the Payroll Office, and can supervise the office when needed. This position works closely with the Payroll Manager to file related Payroll taxes, print and distribute Payroll checks, evaluate garnishment orders and various other deductions. The Senior Payroll Analyst, in conjunction with the Payroll Manager, has a high level of responsibility for accuracy, and is relied upon by the Payroll Manager for full assistance in timely processing of the University's payroll, including detailed review of Banner payroll processes. Helps to ensures all payrolls (monthly and bi-weekly) are processed in accordance with all university policies and in compliance with state and federal law.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. With the Payroll Manager, facilitates regular review of all payrolls within the department, as well as with colleagues in HR and Student Employment and makes required changes ensuring accurate compensation to all University employees. Reviews applicable deductions and identifies discrepancies. Prepares periodic ADP files for federal and state tax liabilities and transmits to ADP. Assigns imputed income to employees related to graduate tuition remission, unaccounted expenses, sports camps, etc. Processes requests to reissue lost or misplaced payroll checks.
2. Works to resolve complex payroll issues by independently taking corrective action to successful resolution. Investigates all ACH notices and returns to determine appropriate payroll actions required. ACH returns are expected to increase as the the direct deposit process becomes automated and available thru Banner self-serve.
3.Evaluates and gives final review of all legal garnishment orders and deductions to comply with garnishment order. Completes garnishment process by coordinating payment with procurement. Maintains detail of garnishments taken and provides analysis to general accounting for garnishment reconciliation.
4.Performs special projects as needed, including special audit requests, or requests from Human Resources or Legal. Researches state and federal tax requirements as needed.
5. Other financial, accounting or processing duties as assigned within Payroll office.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree with 3-5 years of related experience.
