Brightcove is looking for a Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs
to join Brightcove as a leader and a member of our legal team. You will work collaboratively with all parts of the organization to take on complex projects, which will require you to exercise sound, independent judgment to find practical solutions in a dynamic environment. You will be leading a team, working internationally, supporting a revenue organization, and working with HR professionals. We want you to learn the Brightcove business and have a meaningful impact on our organization in this role. The successful candidate will have intellectual curiosity about technology and a desire to learn the technical, market, and customer objectives of our business, in order to provide business-oriented legal advice.
Job Responsibilities
Commercial
Partner with senior leadership to incorporate legal advice into our revenue strategy
Oversee the negotiation of a broad range of contracts, covering the full spectrum of what we sell and buy, to collaboratively get deals done
Structure, draft, review, negotiate, and close complex software licensing deals and other strategic agreements
Work closely with Revenue Operations to manage policies and workflows to streamline contract lifecycle processes
Lead the ongoing development of resources and training programs for the Sales Organization
Support the Marketing Organization on matters related to branding and IP
Employment
Partner closely with the global HR team on employment matters related to all stages of the candidate and employee experience
Work collaboratively, proactively and progressively to establish local, national and international policies on key issues affecting the employee experience at Brightcove
Develop resources and training programs for the HR Organization
Leadership
Lead a team of commercial and employment lawyers to support Brightcove’s global operations
Collaborate across departments as a trusted partner to achieve business outcomes and serve as a voice of legal on our senior leadership team
Take ownership over multiple legal disciplines, including IP (overseeing trademark and patent portfolios, advising on open source matters, and advising on copyright and unfair competition issues), litigation, and ESG/CSR
Establish and manage relationships with outside counsel on a variety of global matters
Qualifications and Experience
15 years of relevant experience, with an emphasis on global experience in-house, leading a team of lawyers, preferably in the technology space;
Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a team, earn trust, and get along with co-workers and senior executives;
Deep experience in structuring, negotiating, and closing a broad range of contracts, including SaaS agreements;
Experience with employment law (both U.S. and international);
Demonstrated ability to identify and tactfully raise issues, propose solutions that take into account strategic or business goals, and communicate effectively with lawyers and other stakeholders;
Attention to detail, and ability to prioritize and think and act quickly while juggling varied projects;
Dedication to finding a way to get to “yes” while protecting the company’s interests;
Common sense with uncommon levels of creativity and persistence;
Thoughtfulness about contributing to our culture and our place in the world;
Readiness to take on just about anything and challenge the status quo to make things better and more efficient;
JD and member of the bar in good standing;

Currently all Hybrid or Onsite employees need to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination in order to meet in a Brightcove office. Remote employees will be required if they travel to a Brightcove office.
