Digital Communications Manager (Full - Time, Regular)

The San Diego Natural History Museum is seeking a Digital Communications Manager that will engage audiences in The Nat’s programs and mission. This position is a critical role in the Communications & Marketing Department, which works to elevate reputation, build advocacy, and support participation, visitation, and fundraising efforts for The Nat.
Working in close collaboration with the Senior Director of Communications and colleagues across the organization, the Digital Communications Manager will cultivate and build the organization's digital community and drive engagement with current and prospective supporters, program participants, visitors, and cultural influencers.
Part data nerd, part writer/content developer, part project manager, the ideal candidate is highly creative and able to cultivate a distinctive brand voice, while also having a strong grasp of analytics and audience development.
Your Day-to-Day Work
In this role, you will manage and execute our content strategy across all digital platforms (website, newsletters, social media channels), oversee our digital advertising program, and develop marketing campaigns around museum programs. You'll use analytics to support strategy, oversee community management, and stay up to date with best practices and trends.
Primary Responsibilities
Conceive and create content that speaks to multiple audiences across various communications channels (website, newsletters, blog, social media)

Strong writer with a mastery of AP Style who can create and execute a full editorial strategy
Experience in content management across platforms and formats (including photo/video)
High integrity and adherence to brand guidelines
Demonstrated management of social media advertising and expertise with Meta Ads Manager and Meta for Business
Experience in community management and crisis communications; ability to engage a unique and diverse community and its concerns

Director of Café and Retail Operations (Full – Time, Regular)
Role Summary/Objectives:
The primary role is to create the overall vision for the café and retail operations that enhances the visitor experience. The Director is responsible for leading the department to achieve revenue goals, and provide an outstanding experience for all visitors through creative, mission-related products, merchandising, menu options, and customer service. This position ensures the shop and cafe are an integral part of the experience of all visitors. In addition, this position oversees the liquor license and beverage needs for special events. This full-time, exempt position reports to the CFO/COO and has a varied schedule that includes weekend and/or evening hours.
Roles and responsibilities:
Directs the general vision, operations, and management of the food, beverage, and retail services (including e-commerce) department.
Responsible for ensuring the café and shop is on brand, reaches a broad audience, and reflect the Museum’s mission and strategic goals;
Creates the overall vision for the café and shop that enhances the visitor experiences and ensures it is an integral part of the experience for all guests.
Recruits, mentors, trains, develops and successfully manages a team to achieve the strategic objectives and the present and future needs of the department
Oversight of the annual department planning and in creation and management of annual operating plans and budget.

Ensures compliance for the safe and legal service of alcoholic beverages.
Works with local and state inspectors (e.g., Department of Environmental Health and ABC) to ensure all food safety measures are met. Ensures all staff are in compliance with all health, safety, and training regulations.
Creates and implements all policies and procedures for the department including compliance of organizational standards relating to the quality of products and services.
Keeps all public and storages areas clean and organized.
Monitors all equipment to ensure all items are in working order for all functions.

Qualifications and Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in food service/hospitality management preferred.
A minimum of 5 years of progressive responsibility in the food and beverage industry is required.
Advanced knowledge required of wines, distilled spirits, malted beverages, and service skills for high-quality beverage service, modern buffet and reception setup, flow management, replenishment techniques, and aesthetically pleasing presentation.
Certification in safe alcohol service or TIPS preferred.
Experience in resolving customer issues/complaints as well as overall excellent customer service required.
Proficient in computer software including Microsoft Word and Excel.

Lead Educator (Full - Time, Regular)
Position Summary:
The Lead Educator’s primary focus is directing remote and in-person natural science classes for grades 4-8 for participants in the School in the Park (SITP) program. This unique program funded by Price Philanthropies will provide weeklong science education experiences to select area students.
The Lead Educator also works with Education staff to create and implement curriculum for the Nat’s school-based programs for both distance learning programs as well as in-person classes. The position’s goal is to help diverse school participants interpret the natural world through engaging science-based activities; practice the museum’s mission through stewardship and encourage a life-long learning.
Position description:
The Lead Educator supervises and collaborates with the Museum Educator & Program Coordinator to deliver NGSS aligned science classes to the School in the Park Program and Museum’s school-based offerings. The Lead Educator is responsible for writing, updating and teaching curriculum for the SITP program and additional distance learning, school-based and summer camp programs. This role also supports Volunteer and Education Departments in managing the Outdoor Access Program.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
School in the Park
Serve as lead educator for School in the Park program.
Work collaboratively with School in the Park staff to address the goals and needs of the students and program.
Manage the Museum Educator & Program Coordinator: oversee personnel’s plan of work, assign duties, ensure their active engagement in SITP and Nat programs, and conduct timecard approvals.
Collaboratively teach with Museum Educator & Program Coordinator.

Your Day-to-Day Work
In this role, you will develop and implement Human Resources strategies and planning for the Museum as well as handling day-to-day management in all HR areas. You will serve as point of contact for all employees regarding HR issues and will advise senior management on HR strategic planning and policy development. In addition, you’ll manage and coach the People and Culture Coordinator who is responsible for the recruitment and hiring for our 180 staff.

Visitor Services Coordinator (Full - Time, Regular)
The San Diego Natural History Museum Visitor Services department is seeking an experienced, full-time Visitor Services Coordinator (VSC) to assist with running daily, frontline admissions operations and providing superior customer service to Museum guests at our Admissions Desk, Theater, Museum and exhibit entries.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required, with the ability to solve customer problems quickly and efficiently, while upholding Museum initiatives and standards. Candidates must be dependable, trustworthy, professional, and positive at all times as this position is primarily focused on providing an engaging guest experience while leading a team of Visitor Services department staff.
This position requires full time (40 hours) availability including weekends, holidays and some evenings.
The San Diego Natural History Museum is not open on Thanksgiving or Christmas Day.
Areas of responsibilities include:
Running a multi-associate floor schedule by assessing floor needs
assigning tasks as necessary, and monitoring to ensure a smooth and efficient for both guests and staff. Daily opening and closing procedures which include ensuring the Museum floor is prepared, work stations are stocked, signage is properly displayed, daily sales are reconciled and a daily deposit is properly prepared.
