The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. (CSPI) seeks to hire a diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and human resources (HR) professional to design and implement the organization’s diversity, equity, and inclusion strategic initiatives. With deep expertise in the DEI subject matter arena, this position will support training and education, staff engagement, staff relations, and organizational accountability. They will be responsible for managing ongoing DEI projects, developing new initiatives, and tracking measurable progress.
Over the past two years, CSPI has engaged in an extensive DEI organizational change process, including creating a DEI Task Force and implementing task force recommendations, racial equity staff trainings, leadership equity coaching, organizational assessments, and more. This newly created position will build upon that work, continuing to embed our equity commitment into the organization's culture and policies, while supporting us in taking the next steps on our equity journey. The Associate Director will develop strategies to ensure that DEI and HR initiatives and programs align with CSPI’s core values and our racial justice organizational change process and commitment. This includes thoughtfully balancing privilege, effectiveness, and humility and our commitment to fostering a workplace culture that is welcoming and inclusive to staff of different races and backgrounds.
This position is a strategic advisor to the Executive Director on organizational DEI programs and policies, reports to the Director of Human Resources, and will work in our Washington, DC office (hybrid work model). The Associate Director will have direct access to the Executive Director through regularly scheduled meetings and any time DEI issues arise.
CSPI recognizes that there is a strong connection between many of the responsibilities listed below as DEI initiatives and traditional human resource projects. The candidate will also work with the Director of Human Resources on traditional human resource projects, such as staff and intern recruitment, performance management, benefits administration, and managing the CSPI intern program, ensuring strong execution of these projects and bringing an equity lens to them.

DEI Primary Responsibilities:**
(70%)**
Develop CSPI’s DEI vision, mission, and framework, including broader implementation of CSPI’s DEI Statement and Values.
Develop and operationalize CSPI’s DEI initiatives and chair the DEI Committee.
Work across the organization to hold CSPI accountable for implementation of DEI initiatives.
Develop and implement initiatives for staff and leadership to strengthen cultural competency, improve understanding of race, ethnicity, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and other areas of individual identity, increase awareness and support for equity and inclusion values, and build a climate of equity and inclusion.
Create project plans, benchmarks, and deliverables for DEI initiatives; and implement and monitor systems to track metrics and measurements for success.
Develop and lead a DEI training program for staff and the CSPI Board of Directors.
Provide support and guidance to Executive Director, senior staff, and other staff when complex, specialized, or sensitive questions and issues relating to equity and identity arise.
Work with Director of Human Resources and recruiting teams to review and implement recruiting and hiring strategies to diversify staff and intern applicant pipelines.
Help assess CSPI’s hiring toolkit and refine our policies and processes to maintain and improve our inclusive hiring processes and mitigate bias.
Assess CSPI staff retention practices from an equity perspective including orientation, promotions, and benefits.
Research best practices to establish sound and innovative processes, policies, and programs.
HR Primary Responsibilities: (30%)
Work with Director of Human Resources to update and maintain CSPI personnel policies to ensure they advance and support an equitable and inclusive workplace.
Assist with benefits administration, including staff education and open enrollment.
Work with the Director of Human Resources to manage and update the grievance process to ensure issues are handled in a timely manner.
Help manage CSPI’s intern program including program assessment, intern recruitment, and organizing social and professional development events.
Assist with full cycle recruiting including drafting job descriptions with hiring teams, sourcing, screening applications, scheduling interviews, and checking references.
Help manage and assess CSPI’s performance management system to ensure alignment with CSPI’s core values.
Provide backup on payroll processing, including ensuring CSPI follows local and state tax and benefit compliance and maintain personnel files.
Help manage HR related budgets including tracking HR expenses and shepherding them through the approval process.
Help maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment and benefit laws and regulations, and recommend best practices to guide HR programs over time.
Qualifications:
3-4 years of relevant experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion program development, including designing, managing and implementing; and demonstrated knowledge of the related subject matter.
5-7 years of Human Resources experience (recruitment, performance management, employee relations, and compliance).
Diversity, equity, and inclusion professional certification or related degree preferred.
Proven interpersonal skills, including the ability to actively listen, collaborate, build relationships, influence, manage conflict, and problem solve.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of relevant professional experience.
Experience developing and delivering workforce trainings preferred.
Strong understanding of leading practices in DEI.
Strong cultural competency, including an understanding of power dynamics and intersecting axes of diversity (age, race, ethnicity, disability, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, and socio-economic circumstance) and how these attributes play out in a workplace.
Ability to leverage insights through data analytics (assessment, analysis, and reporting) of diversity and inclusion metrics.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to develop strong working relationships with staff across all levels, geographies, backgrounds and lived experiences.
Attention to detail and a highly organized, process-focused aptitude.
Ability to manage sensitive situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.

Compensation
The salary range is $95,000 to $105,000, based on experience. CSPI offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes: 3 weeks of annual vacation leave; additional paid holiday leave between December 24 and January 1; 8 weeks of paid parental leave; excellent medical and dental insurance with CSPI paying a significant portion of employee and dependent premiums; and a three percent employer match contribution to the retirement plan after one year of service.
