Even with the country-wide trend of job losses, Alberta manages to maintain the lowest unemployment rate they have had in 20 years. Local employment agencies have found that locating jobs for people is easy and plenty of jobs are available. Fort McMurray is where the statistics report was based; the region also included Lac La Biche, St. Paul, Cold Lake, and Bonnyville.
Statistics Canada states 55,000 jobs were lost across Canada in July; however, this number was offset by the number of Canadians who were hired in the same month. In 1987 the unemployment rate was set at 12.2%, but as of June of 2008 it has decreased to 3.3%.
